The 1971 Le Mans is legendary for being the last held on the original circuit before major safety changes. It was also the final year the Porsche 917 competed in its original form in the 24 Hours of Le Mans due to regulation changes.

This shows a pit stop scene, during the early hours of the race, sometime before the car’s retirement on lap 50, with the #19 car making a driver swap.

The #19 Porsche 917K was running as high as third place overall when it encountered treacherous weather conditions. Mike Hailwood, while navigating through heavy rain, lost control due to aquaplaning and collided with a stationary Alfa Romeo at Tertre Rouge corner. This incident led to the retirement.
