Driven by Vic Elford and Gérard Larrousse, the No. 3 917K started 4th on the grid and survived a brutal, hot race with a top speed of 340 km/h (211 mph) with an average speed of 181 km/h (112.5 mph).

Its 4.5-litre flat-12 engine, short-tail bodywork and unmistakable Martini Stripes made it one of the defining endurance racing icons of the early 1970s.
